Jake Hollander on Surviving High School With Lyme Disease

Jake Hollander is the son of Katina Makris, (who has also been on this show episode #51 ) A senior in highschool, Jake was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and has had to take time off school to heal from several relapses. Currently he is out on the west coast perfecting his golf game.

Jake’s self awareness as a athlete has served him well in his journey through Lyme disease. It’s tempting when circumstances are not going your way to check out and try to ignore your physical and mental distress. His ability to focus during stressful times, homed by playing golf, has helped him navigate high school and Lyme.

Lyme disease is tough enough on adults, but when it totally wrecks a young person’s life, they need special attention and care.

Meet Other Lyme Ninja’s

Some of my favorite interviews are with people just like you who are figuring out how to navigate life with Lyme. The wisdom, grace and humor that people display is why I call them Lyme Ninjas. They have developed extraordinary skills and experience and are always willing to share what they have learned. Lyme disease can be a harsh teacher, but it also can uncover the best in people. I love listening and I know you will too.

Below are the most recent Lyme Ninja interviews.

I practice acupuncture in Clinton, NY, a small village in the geographical center of the state. Once I became aware of Lyme and other insect carried diseases, I started seeing my chronic patients in an entirely different light. Join me as I speak with the the most fascinating people in the Lyme community. If you know someone I should interview, let me know.
